GA is very excited to work with the Clingendael Institute in organizing “Deterrence or dialogue? NATO, Ukraine, and the Russian threat”

In the buildup to NATO’s summit on June 24-25, a series of public debates is taking place across cities in the Netherlands. GA has been given the privilege of working with Clingendael to organize their visit to Utrecht.

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, supporting Kyiv has been one of NATO’s central strategic priorities. At the same time, deterring Russian aggression – a cornerstone of NATO’s mission since its foundation in 1949 – has taken on renewed urgency.

At the latest NATO Summit in Washington, allies reiterated that Russia remains the most significant and a direct threat to their security. In April 2025, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte emphasized that the Alliance considers Russia to be a long-term threat.

Yet, the Alliance has long been divided over how to deal with Russia. What threat does the Russian Federation really pose to NATO? How should the Alliance respond? Is the Ukrainian perspective on membership of the Alliance realistic? And how will NATO’s choices shape its long-term relationship with Russia

GA! Think-Tank along with the Clingendael Institute would kindly like to invite you to join this event as we look forward to the 2025 NATO Summit in The Hague.
